A Heart Full of Gratitude

Sally and Salvatore DAquila

Sally & Salvatore D’Aquila

My name is Sally D’Aquila. Just over 25 years ago, I faced one of the greatest challenges of my life when I suffered a heart attack. However, from this challenge grew a new appreciation for life, as well as a strong relationship withHartford Hospital that my husband and I will cherish for the rest of our lives—and beyond.

I have visited Hartford Hospital more times than I can count—and not by choice.  Thankfully, my thoracic surgeon, Hiroyoshi Takata, MD, along with the excellent care team at Hartford Hospital made my recovery a positive experience. My life changed as I got to know Dr. Takata, and the more our relationship grew and strengthened, the more I was committed to giving back to Hartford Hospital.

Chronic heart disease is not a great thing to have, but my experience with Hartford Hospital not only helped me to live a longer and healthier life, it helped me to become a better person as well. I truly believe that if I—as a patient—expect a hospital to give me their best, then I have a responsibility to give the hospital my best. Hartford Hospital can only be as strong as the support it receives.

This is why my husband  Salvatore and I created a fund at Hartford Hospital to assist women and their families who are in need due to a cardiac diagnosis. We are also committed to making provisions for Hartford Hospital in our estate plan, so when we become a part of the galaxy, a portion of our estate will help the Hospital serve its mission to improve the well-being of our community—now and in the future.

I’m not wealthy by any means, but you don’t need to be to make a difference. There are numerous ways
you can give back, contribute and help the Hospital and its patients. On behalf of Hartford Hospital’s 1854 Society, we invite you to join us as members of this very special society by including Hartford Hospital in your estate plan and ensuring this important institution continues to grow and serve for generations to come.

Thank you, Dr. Takata—and thank you, Hartford Hospital.
